My first official DJ mix in almost a year, I'm very happy to present Cerebella.

I tried to build around a theme of complex music forms and sounds. It's a bit of deep house, progressive techno, and indie techno in a very geeky, cerebral mix with some Latin flavor. Many of these tracks are brilliant but very difficult to mix and often complex, so they probably didn't show up on many dance floors. That's probably why they are some of my favorites of the past year and I felt they could use some attention and appreciation :)

There's a little talked about part of DJing called the art of the transition. There are many ways of putting tracks together, and in many cases slamming two tracks together is perfectly acceptable. But for some of us, we get really into it, "burying the mix" as it's called.

To get those really complex transitions, I turned to MixMeister Studio. The idea of MM Studio is to make studio-quality mixes, an old app that was a decade ahead of its time. It made it very easy for me to get extremely picky about my transitions and timing, saving me days of the old stand-and-record approach to putting a mix together.

I plan to follow up with a couple of posts covering how I made Cerebella in MM Studio, as well as how DJs can use MM Studio to dig deep into the art of the transition.
